As the inspiration and driving force behind ZOO, Pawl is all about forging strategic alliances and developing new business opportunities. These days he’s focused on the big picture, but he’s never lost his love of art direction and design - with acclaimed work to show for it.

In 1999, Pawl merged City Graphics, Canberra’s largest graphic design business, with advertising agency Communication Partners to form The Communication Co - the business that became ZOO in 2002. Pawl has worked on the creation of many well-known brands including Rex, the ACCC, the Brumbies, ACTEWAGL, TransACT, Floriade, Capital Chemists, Magnet Mart, Club Academy, Verve and Belluci’s Restaurants, and the Old Bus Depot Markets. His work has won a host of awards, including a Silver at the New York Advertising Festival. He was named Canberra Graphic Design Industry Individual of the Year in 2000.

Pawl’s a quick thinker who says what he’s thinking - so it’s good to have a whiteboard handy. He loves to spend time travelling with his family, and when he’s not working takes a keen interest in garden and interior design, history, philosophy, art and running.
